Bold enough?

Or totally inappropriate?

Huh. Could go either way.

I didn’t know Aaron all that well, but I’d figured out enough to know he didn’t do casual hookups. Hell, I didn’t even get the sense he did a lot of sex. Which was fine. Plenty of guys didn’t go that route. Some were quite happy with their hands, and others didn’t have the inclination. I knew a few women who, in candid moments, expressed the same thing.

I couldn’t really relate. For whatever reason, that I didn’t care to examine, both Kendra and I had high sex drives. I liked to use sex as a stress relief—and given how much stress my sister put me through—I pretty much had a consistent cycle of men. Which sounded all kinds of bad. Which was why Shaw was so outside my comfort zone. I’d really liked the guy. He’d sensed that and backed right away.

Lesson learned.

Aaron was different—in every way possible.

“Are you sure I’m not pushing you?”

His grin was wry. “Oh, I’d say you’re pushy. But a guy needs to be pushed now and then.”

My unease grew.

He smiled, leaned over, and pressed a kiss to my lips. When he pulled back, his dark eyes were almost black with dilated pupils. The low light or sexual desire?

I wasn’t sure. “I’d never—”

He pressed a finger to my lips.

This was kind of becoming our thing.

“I know how to say no. And I don’t know how far I can take this—”

“We won’t go any further than you’re comfortable. I promise.”

“Then I don’t see why we can’t move this to the bedroom.” He winced. “Aw, shit.”

I cocked my head.

“I don’t have supplies.”

Which told me everything I needed to know. “I’ve got a couple of condoms in my suitcase pocket along with a travel bottle of lube.”

He quirked an eyebrow.

“I believe in being prepared.”

“Fair enough.”

“Why don’t we leave the condoms where they are? But I think we can put the lube to good use.”

His eyes widened.

I waited as he digested that.

“Uh, yeah, okay.”

“Why don’t you head to the bathroom? Get ready for bed and then hop in? If you’ve changed your mind by the time I join you, I’ll head out to the couch and we’re good.”

“I won’t change my mind.”

Our gazes met. “You can always change your mind. One word and we stop. No recriminations and no regrets.”

“Do you have this conversation with all the guys you’re with?”

I drew in a deep breath and blew it out. “I…it’s kind of understood. Consent is a thing. They all know they can say no.” And why were we talking about other men?

Because he needs reassurances.

Was I supposed to make up a story to tell him so he’d feel better?

“I’m okay.” He scratched his scalp. “It’s been a long time. I don’t know the rules.”

“There are no rules. You do what feels right. And you stop if it doesn’t feel good. And you don’t worry about what I’ll think, because your feelings are the most important.”

“That doesn’t sound fair.”

I smiled. “I’m a big boy. It takes a lot to hurt my feelings.
